Since the launch of Cronos Gravity Bridge testnet “Pioneer 11” on June 28th, 2022, the Cronos community has been thoroughly testing the cronos.org/bridge user interface and the decentralized Gravity bridge that connect the Cronos “Pioneer 11” testnet to the Ethereum Goerli testnet for cryptocurrency transfers.
Thanks to the team’s efforts and incredible community support, we are now ready to propose the very first upgrade to Pioneer 11 testnet on August 24th, 2022, which will bring several enhancements to the Cronos/Ethereum bridge.
The binary v0.8.0-gravity-alpha1 has been released for this upgrade.
What’s included in this upgrade:
A notable update is the implementation of the bidirectional tokens transfers. It means that users will be able to transfers tokens which have been issued natively on Cronos (such as VVS) to Ethereum (or to the Crypto.org chain).
In addition, the upgraded version contains multiple optimizations of the gravity module, which include memory saving by pruning old attestations and gas saving on the gravity bridge smart contract. It also contains security enhancements and improvements. Details are available in the change log.
Note this upgrade remains a testnet upgrade. Bridge transfers are not yet available between Cronos mainnet and Ethereum mainnet.
What to expect:
The target date of the network upgrade of the Pioneer 11 testnet is August 24th, 2022.
To fully prepare for the upgrade work, we will pause Pioneer 11 Testnet transfers on the gravity bridge web app for two days before the upgrade date of August 24th. The bridge web app will remain fully functional with respect to Mainnet transfers. Pioneer 11 Testnet transfers will resume once the network upgrade is complete.
